“Hey, does this #!%&* even work?” or, How CBD works.
Over the course of the past year, the Terrapin Select team traveled all over the country attending festivals, staffing booths at trade shows, and pretty much taking every opportunity we could to educate consumers and retailers alike on the many benefits of CBD. During that time we became very familiar with many of the common questions that people have about cannabidiol.
Typically people are what we’d call CBD-curious, whether or not they intend on actually trying a CBD supplement. Most want to know what CBD is and if it is legal. We usually respond in a stern tone, “No, it’s not and you’re under arrest for even asking that question.” While we’re hand cuffing the thought-criminal, we tell them that CBD is not an acronym, it’s just short for cannabidiol which is the primary chemical compound associated with the therapeutic properties found in cannabis and hemp plants. Next we explain that CBD is in fact legal in all 50 states because the 2018 Farm Bill reclassified hemp as an agricultural commodity instead of a controlled substance, and that they are free to go about their business.
Of course we’d never take part in the above scenario, regardless of what kind of laughs or chaos might ensue. Those are the two most common inquiries that people have, and once those are properly addressed the public really wants to know just HOW CBD works?
While it may be simple to say or to write that CBD works in the human body by regulating the Endocannabinoid System, properly explaining that is another matter entirely. For starters, most of us need to be brought up to speed on the Endocannabinoid system. If you’re thinking back to your time in science classroom and wondering how you missed that particular system of the human body, you are not alone. The Endocannabinoid system has always been at work regulating the other biological systems, but we didn’t discover it until some 30 years ago. Now, if that doesn’t seem like a long ways back just consider that the Endocannabinoid system was discovered right around the same time that the web server that would launch the world wide web was put in place, and the country that won the World Cup was named WEST Germany!
In the years that followed, we learned more and more about the ECS and how it works to promote balance, and well-being in the minds and bodies of all mammals that share this sphered space. Like many other systems in the human body, the ECS never stops working. It may help to think of it as a type of internal communication network put there to make sure that our systems are connected so we experience optimal body function. CBD works along with the ECS as a kind of lock and key system. When we take CBD, it enters the body and starts to interact with the sensors of the Endocannabinoid system helping to promote cannabinoid metabolism and regulating balance. A healthy, fully functional ECS fueled by CBD can directly influence the way our bodies respond to injuries and inflammation.
When someone asks me directly, “So, what do you feel when you start taking daily CBD?” the best way to describe it is that you start to feel an absence of things that interfere with your mind and body. That’s the most accurate way for me to describe a healthy, functional ECS after 3 or 4 days of daily CBD. The mind is calmer. The body is centered. The nervous and immune systems begin to strengthen, and vital processes like sleeping, eating, and relaxing become optimized.
Sound good? Yeah, we think so too. That’s why we’re not merely fans of CBD. The Terrapin Select team is comprised of passionate CBD advocates who believe in its health benefits and work hard to inform and educate. If you came to this blog curious and with your own CBD questions, GOOD!! You should have questions about CBD and what it can do for you! Keep asking good questions and keep an open mind! Our goal here was to help you understand why that one friend of yours keeps raving about how daily CBD has helped them. We’re happy whenever we hear of someone finding relief in the form of CBD, and that’s why we do what we do.
We’ll check in with you soon to take a look at another frequently asked question from the world of CBD health and wellness. Until then,
Be Wise, Be Well.
